Timeline and Migration Dates

Migration

The first migration will begin at 7pm on Thursday, January 12, 2023. In the “first wave,” the only protocols that will be migrated are approved studies that do not have an amendment or progress report in process. Studies that do not migrate in the first wave will migrate in the “second wave” if the action is completed. If the action is not completed by the time of the second wave, then it will migrate without that action being processed (the investigator will need to start over with the modification or CR in PROTECT). The exact date of the second wave will be determined and communicated to the community.

Note that Exempt protocols and NHSR projects will not migrate. If you need to submit a modification for one of these types of protocols in PROTECT, enter it as a new project but refer back to the previously approved protocol and indicate that you are now submitting a modification.

The dates to submit various types of reviews are listed below. Please note the dates below are subject to change.

Review Type	Details
Continuing Reviews	Continuing reviews that expire that expire through the end of February 28, 2023 must be submitted in iRIS before December 31 2022. For continuing reviews that expire on or after March 1st 2023, can be submitted in PROTECT once the system is live on January 17, 2023.
Initial Reviews	No new Initial Reviews will be accepted in iRIS after November 1, 2022, until PROTECT is live January 17, 2023. New Initial Reviews must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023.
Modifications (Formerly Amendments)	No new Modifications will be accepted in iRIS after November 1, 2022, until PROTECT is live January 17, 202. New Modifications must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023. • Urgent safety modifications will be accepted on an as needed basis in iRIS during this time. Please consult with the IRB office via the irb@nih.gov mailbox if you are unsure whether something is urgent.
Reportable New Information (Formerly Reportable Events)	Continue to submit in iRIS until January 13, 2023. Reportable New Information must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023.
Radiation Safety Committee Submissions	No new actions (initial reviews, amendments, triennial reviews) will be accepted in iRIS after November 5, 2022. New Radiation Safety submissions must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023.
Scientific Review Committee Submissions	Submission deadline for each IC committee will be communicated to their IC by that committee.
PRIA	No new PRIA submissions will be accepted in iRIS after November 1, 2022. New PRIA submissions must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023.
DEC	Please consult your IC DEC office about what they will accept in iRIS after October 20, 2022. New DEC submissions must be submitted in PROTECT starting on January 17, 2023.
